SCARY BEARD
In the deep, cold winter of 2009 Northampton, MA local indie rock
stars (and horror film aficionados) Matt Hebert (Haunt, Ware River
Club) and Michael Wyzik (Red Door Exchange) came up with a simple
concept. Write, play and record an entire record in 5 days using only
an old analog 8 track, two guitars, and a vintage drum machine.
Loosely based on an apocalyptic vision of the future, where two survivors come
to terms with the losses, dangers, and adventures of a new world, the
initial 8 songs were so impressive, the project quickly grew the
attention of other area musicians. Thane Thomsen (The Figments), Mark
Schwaber (Spouse, Hospital), Bob Hennessy (Treefort, Haunt), and Dave
Houghton (Fancy Trash) were asked to contribute cameos, and local
engineer Matt Cullen (The Humming Field) was asked to mix the final
product. And Scary Beard was born. Their self-titled debut is clearly
more than just the sum of its parts.
