 GRUBSTAKE

Grubstake is a 2-piece band based in Philadelphia that delivers a blistering style of indie swamp rock blues with a heavy eclectic tinge. The band's music oozes with diverse influences: from Vic Chestnut to the Minutemen to Bob Log III, to name a few. Centered around a core of burning guitar and drums boogie, the arrangements feature a rotating lineup of accompanying instruments including accordion, bass, toy piano, button box, and kazoo, and the songs are filled with lyrics that are incisive, funny and original.

The group's latest CD, The Bestest, A deluxe studio recording of live standards, pulls together crowd favorites from their first 3 albums and turns them over to veteran producer Darron Burke (Folk Implosion, Cheater Slicks, & U.V. Protection). Chord Magazine writes, "Essential listening, and for the late-night partying crowd, the jam of the summer."

Praise for Grubstake

"Like Andy Warhol attempting an Impressionist portrait of Elvis, Grubstake manages to mix the humor of Ween, Richard Hell's punk snickers and the "dropout blues" of early Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band with charm, skill, and reckless abandon."
- Amanda Nichols, The Noise

"Grubstake delivers a mix of traditional blues and lo-fi rock, with shades of PJ Harvey and Neil Young -- and a little accordion thrown in for good measure."
- The Boston Globe

"...one of those quirky, intelligent discs that got stuck in our CD player and just wouldn’t come out."
- stuff@night, Boston

"Spare and ruthless, it runs over you like an old steam engine - downright sweeping."
- Campus Circle (Los Angeles)
